How to compare suppliers beyond the headline price

MSC Sourcing editorial guide · 19 October 2026

Create one comparison sheet

Use identical specification and quantity fields for every quotation. Add packaging, delivery scope, lead time and payment milestones. If a supplier proposes an alternative, keep it on a separate line so a lower price does not conceal a different product.

Review evidence in context

Check company information and request relevant supporting records. Note the issuer, scope, date and expiry of any document that influences your decision. Inspection findings describe the scope and time of that inspection; they are not an unlimited guarantee of future deliveries.

Keep an agreed record

Summarise the agreed specification and outstanding questions in the platform conversation. Share revised requirements with every supplier still being considered. Save the final quotation and acceptance record before making a separate purchasing commitment.
